coated rotors are awesome

There are rust piles in my garage that line up with the footprint of my Miata. Those are from when I did my brake rotors like a year ago. Much hammering and swearing was required. One of these tools sure would be neat to have I guess.

So:
a. I’m utterly confused as to what that “safety strap” was supposed to accomplish.
b. Like spring compressors, I’m not really sure this tool is safe to use with an impact? On the other hand, last time I used my bicycle crank puller, it was a real pain in the ass, and it definitely would have been tempting to have one I could just hit with an electric impact.

Thats the safe way. I just beat the fuck out of it with a bfh until it cracks or falls off.

Yeah, most pullers I’ve encountered warn against the use of impacts. But this one must be built to take the hammering, because the instructions seem to encourage impact use.
Oh, and the strap is just there to help keep the arms from slipping off of the rotor/drum.
The safety part that Eric forgot
was to leave a lug nut on one of the studs. Whoops!

Yeah, that lug would have helped. I might have put on more than one, for redundancy.

Never mind, deleted . I type too slow compared to @ Urambo Tauro . Now I have to buy another tool though.
Just adding that the hammering action of the impact loosens the rust bonds.

No, he used it wrong. Look again. That’s a brake DRUM.
Brake ROTOR you’re supposed to strap the way he did, then a strap or chain from the safety strap to a recovery point.

Rust? Mazda?
Yep, it checks out.
